About the College

The republic government decided to establish Samarkand State Medical University 90 years ago, in 1930. The University has made significant progress along its long route to becoming one of the top medical universities not only in Uzbekistan but also in the entire Central Asian area.

The State Uzbek Medical Institute was established in Samarkand on May 7, 1930, by Resolution No. 80 of the Council of People's Commissars of Uzbekistan. Since there was no independent medical higher education institution in that region, this was a major event for the people of Central Asia.

After the republic gained independence, Samarkand State Medical Institute (from April 2022 - University) experienced a special development. A "National Programme of Training" and a "State Programme of Health Care Reform" were adopted by the nation in 1997 and 1998, respectively, and as a result, a Faculty of Higher Nursing was established in 1999. In addition to the Stomatology, Medical Preventive Medicine, Medical Biology, and Pharmacy faculties opening in 2005 and 2001, respectively, students began enrolling in a new course named "Traditional Medicine" in the following academic years.

In order to train staff in joint educational programs leading to academic degrees of Bachelor and Ma, the university established cooperation with renowned foreign universities such as the Volga Medical Research University, Chuvash National University named after I.N. Ulyanov (Russia), Ternopol National Medical University named after Y.B. Gorbachevsky (Ukraine), National Louis University Graduate School of Business (Poland), and Belarusian State Medical University (Republic of Belarus). The training of employees under the second higher education program is actively carried out in collaboration with the Korean side. Additionally, beginning with the 2020–2021 academic year, students from India and the IRP who choose to pursue higher medical study within the university's walls will be permitted entry.
