The founding father of Saveetha Engineering College (SEC), Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, is a dentist by trade. With 12 UG courses comprising Agricultural, Artificial Intelligence & Data Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Civil, Chemical, CSE, ECE, EEE, EIE, IT, Mechanical, and Medical Electronics, and 8 PG courses including MBA, the college can accommodate a total of 4349 students. The institution was ranked 124th out of all IITs, Central, State, and Private Institutions in India for the academic year 2017–18 by the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF), and it received NBA accreditation for five UG courses in 2018 for a three-year period.

The Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust, a recognized nonprofit organization, established it in 2001. approved by the Tamil Nadu government as well as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory organization of the Indian government. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) granted SEC the highest grade 'A' for a five-year period in 2015. The organization scored 3.19 out of 4. The institution received its autonomy grant for the 2019–2020 academic year. Given its capacity for research and development, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) of the Government of India has designated the college as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO).
The School of Management Studies is home to the Department of Business Administration. Since the founding of Vels College of Science in 2003, this department has flourished. MBA inSaveetha Engineering College
Established in 2006–2007, the Department of Management Studies provides access to the prominent field of management. The department prepares ambitious young people to be managers, champions, mindful leaders, and entrepreneurs. The department's facilities, which include state-of-the-art computer labs with wifi Internet access and auditorium-style classrooms, are located on the third floor of the Semi-Circular Block. Microphones, LCD projectors, and smart boards are all nicely furnished in the classrooms. The college has a library that has a lot of books, resources books and a lot of other books. They want to provide the students with a lot of digital resources so that they can provide students help in various fields. The faculty of the college provides the students with excellent teachings so that they are able to grow in their fields.
