Prof. Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, the founder and chancellor of the Symbiosis International (Deemed University), is the mind behind the Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The concept of founding a medical college exclusively for women was conceived after watching the biographical film about Ms. Anandibai Joshi, the country's first female physician. Symbiosis developed this special medical college for women under the Faculty of Health Sciences with the goal of empowering women and strengthening the nation by increasing the proportion of female doctors.

About the College

The concept of founding a medical college only for women occurred after watching the biographical film about Ms. Anandibai Joshi, the country's first female physician. Symbiosis developed this special medical college for women under the Faculty of Health Sciences with the goal of empowering women and strengthening the nation by increasing the proportion of female doctors.

The medical college is situated in Lavale, Pune, on the lovely campus of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). There will be 150 new students per year. Modern infrastructure and facilities are available at the medical college and the Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre that are affiliated to it. Departments

1. Anatomy

On the beautiful Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department of Anatomy is located on the first floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The department actively makes a contribution in the areas of service, research, and education. The department is set up to instruct medical students from throughout the world on all parts of anatomy and their practical applications.

2. Physiology

Physiology is a basic medical science taught to the health care students which explains about the functions of each system and how they coordinate to maintain good health. The department of Physiology is situated on the third floor of the medical college building; has excellent infrastructure and faculties with wide experience and knowledge in different fields of Physiology thus providing quality teaching, research in innovative and emerging fields and clinical services in the university. The department of Physiology adopts a blended approach in imparting medical education which is open to newer concepts in medical education as well as retaining the time-tested teaching-learning principles. The departmental faculties have their expertise in areas like, neurophysiology, exercise physiology, autonomic function testing.

3. Biochemistry

The field of medical science called biochemistry describes the composition, arrangement, and molecular behavior of biomolecules. It is not just a basic subject that is taught to first-year medical students; it is also crucial for the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy of many diseases. It is crucial in the production of many biological products. It offers useful information on the pathophysiology of the various diseases. In both health and sickness, biochemical components of diet play a crucial role. By developing technologies like genetic engineering, PCR, and many others, a solid understanding of biochemistry has revolutionized medical science.

4. Pathology

On the beautiful Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department of Pathology is located on the fifth floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The department actively makes a contribution in the areas of service, research, and education. The department is set up to instruct medical students from throughout the world on all areas of pathology and their practical applications.

5. Microbiology

On the magnificent Lavale hill base campus, the Department of Microbiology is located on the third floor of Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The department is well-equipped to instruct medical students from throughout the world in all areas of microbiology.

6. Pharmacology

The second year of the M.B.B.S programme includes a para-clinical subject called pharmacology. On the fourth floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women's Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department is located. They think that a good pharmacologist must also be a good doctor. They all work toward the same aim, which is to produce skilled Indian medical graduates.

7. Forensic Medicine including Toxicology

On the beautiful Lavale Hill-base Campus, on the fourth floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women, is the Department of Forensic Medicine including Toxicology. The department makes a significant contribution to research, education, and medicolegal services. The department is equipped to teach forensic medicine, medical law, including toxicology and its applied elements, to national and international medical students.

8. Community Medicine

On the second floor of Symbiosis Medical College for Women is where you'll find the department of community medicine. The department actively engages in high-quality research projects and imparts technical information to students and healthcare professionals. It works to improve the health status of the community by providing comprehensive health care services through its associated rural and urban health training centers (RHTC & UHTC).

9. General Medicine

In July 2019, the Symbiosis Medical College for Women in Pune started its department of medicine. The department is dedicated to providing excellence in research, innovation, and education. It works to take the lead in influencing changes in the general public's health outcomes. The personnel are dedicated to keeping their knowledge and skills up to date to maintain their level of excellence

10. Pediatric

In the gorgeous Lavale hill base campus of Pune, the Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology is located on the first floor of Symbiosis Medical College for Women and Hospital. The department offers every child the chance to live a healthy life and reach their full potential by offering care, treatment, and hope.

11. Psychiatry

The area of medicine known as psychiatry is dedicated to the identification, management, and prevention of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. A group of psychiatrists, psychiatric social workers, and clinical psychologists make up the Department of Psychiatry.

12. Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy

In the final year of the M.B.B.S. program, a clinical subject called dermatology, venereology, and leprosy is taught. At the Symbiosis Medical College for Women's Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department is located on the fourth floor of Building No. 3, while the Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy OPD is located on the lower ground floor of Building No. 2. The Department is dedicated to instructing medical students and giving them knowledge and abilities about patient assessment, diagnosis, and management of skin, hair, nail, and neurological illnesses.

13. Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease

On the beautiful Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Tuberculosis & Respiratory Medicine department is located on the fifth floor of building number 3 of Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The department actively makes a contribution in the areas of clinical service, research, and teaching. The department is set up to instruct both domestic and foreign medical students, to treat patients with respiratory illnesses with superior care, and to carry out various domestic and foreign research projects.

14. General Surgery

On the beautiful Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department of Surgery is located on the fourth floor of the Symbiosis Medical College for Women. The department actively makes a contribution in the areas of service, research, and education. The department is set up to instruct medical students from throughout the world on all areas of surgery and their practical applications

15. Otorhinolaryngology

The department of otorhinolaryngology, one of the best-equipped departments at Symbiosis Medical College for Women, Lavale, is located on the fifth floor of building 3. Medical and surgical patient management is our area of expertise. As a result, they encourage their students to learn the fundamental ideas of E.N.T. healthcare.

16. Ophthalmology

The fifth floor of Symbiosis Medical College for Women, Lavalley's building no. 3 is home to the well-equipped department of ophthalmology. The diagnosis and treatment of eye problems are the focus of the medical and surgical field of ophthalmology. 17. Obstetrics and Gynecology

The multispecialty of "obstetrics and gynecology" includes the two subspecialties of "obstetrics" (which deals with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and "gynecology" (which deals with the health of the female reproductive system, including the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).

18. Anaesthesiology

At the Lavale Hill-base Campus, the Department of Anaesthesiology is located on the third floor of the Symbiosis Medical College Hospital building. In the areas of patient treatment, instruction, and research, the department actively participates. The department has everything necessary to provide undergraduate and graduate students with training in the areas of anesthesia, critical care, and pain management.

19. Medical education unit (MEU)

The Medical Education Unit (MEU), which serves as the hub of all academic activities at a medical college, is in charge of faculty training in medical education technology as well as undergraduate and graduate teaching-learning activities. In order to maximize faculty members' performance as instructors, trainers, and educational leaders, faculty development comprises all activities connected to their onboarding, training, and ongoing growth. Eligibility

The admission policy is developed based on the guidelines provided by MCI/NMC, DGHS, MCC, and the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India as announced from time to time. All admissions are made based on the NEET eligibility and counseling by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)/ Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).

First-year M.B.B.S. admissions must follow the qualifying requirements announced by the MCI/NMC in Graduate Medical Education 1997, as revised until May 2018.

The candidate seeking admission to the M.B.B.S. The program must also meet the eligibility requirements at the qualifying examination as announced by MCI, NMC, and NTA. Additionally, her name must appear on an All India Merit List of the qualified candidates created on the basis of the All India Rank at NEET (UG) by NTA. Only those applicants on the list mentioned above will be admitted to the M.B.B.S. program.

Additionally, candidates must take part in the admission counseling process run by DGHS-MCC in accordance with the rules established by the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Government of India, MCI, and NMC, as updated from time to time.

Dr Anandi Gopal Scholarship
  • Each year, the top five female students in the NEET test merit list who are assigned to and admitted to the Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Program at Symbiosis Medical College for Women will receive the Dr. Anandi Gopal Scholarship.
  • After the admissions procedure has been completed, the scholarship will be given out. Academic fees paid during the application process will be kept by the college as a deposit and repaid if the course is successfully completed.
  • According to the terms and conditions of the Dr. Anandi Gopal Scholarship Scheme, all academic fees for grantees of the I, II, and III MBBS (i) and (ii) will be paid for all years of the MBBS program
  • The scholarship will be canceled if the recipient fails a university exam and doesn't keep up with the mandatory attendance
  • Hostel, mess, and other fees will not be funded by the program; those receiving are responsible for paying these expenses out of pocket.
  • Following completion of the MBBS curriculum and the mandatory rotatory residential internship (CRRI), all recipients of the Anandi Gopal scholarship are required to serve SMCW- SUHRC as junior residents for a period of one year. The CRRI period will not count as a full year of service. The winners of the scholarship must work as junior residents in any primary health care facility, urban health facility, rural health facility, or other facility of this type that has been approved by SMCW SUHRC. They shall get any compensation that may be appropriate at the time when they are serving as a tutor, junior resident, or medical officer.
  • The award recipients and their parents must sign a one-year Compulsory Service Bond promising to comply by the scheme's terms and conditions.
  • The candidate will be required to pay an amount equal to the Academic Fees for the program for all Years as compensation in the event that the Service Bond is broken, either while enrolled in the MBBS program or after it has been completed.
